Capturing the late afternoon sunset in winter at Lyme Regis.
The final painting in the 6 widescreen canvas format which was informed by my interest in film panoramic's. This set also depicts the seasons of the year at six different times of the day.
I began work on this latest set of paintings back in July along with five other landscape pieces of the same size.
Painting in a widescreen film format that I am very interested in. I really appreciate a great filmic, scenic shot that adds scope. It's something that I notice on the screen in the way it can inform great storylines.
I research my paintings with this concept in mind when I am outdoors photographing scenic shots that inspires a storyline to the piece I intend to paint.

A brisk November afternoon in Lyme Regis. I'm consciously looking to capture that feeling of fresh wind coming off the Atlantic Ocean, whilst walking along the beach front in winter. The sunset clouds drawing in early over the cliffs.

A tranquil scenic that captures the dawning of a new day.
Whilst working on this piece, I was shocked during the month of September to discover the tragic demise of the symbolic Sycamore Gap Tree at Hadrians Wall.
During the process of this painting I felt compelled to include a tribute to the spirit of the 200 year old Sycamore Tree by painting it in pride of place on the mountain top overlooking Lake View.

3 years to the month, I took this photograph of the glorious midday sunshine over the Spanish horizon in Cartagena.
I found the photos to be very stark in its lighting, which initially drew me to the scene.
